Vintage Holiday

February 1, 2019

Back in December, my husband and I spent a night away from bébé at the lovely Greenbrier Resort. Neither of us needed or wanted any gifts for Christmas so we opted for a relaxing getaway for the two of us. The Greenbrier, nestled in the mountains of West Virginia, has roots that date back to 1778. And once you step foot in the hotel, you are transported to a different era. The decor emulates nostalgia (think 50’s retro), reminding me of my late grandmother. Fun fact: there is a declassified Bunker that you can tour while on the property. It was originally built as an emergency Cold War shelter for members of Congress.

Although I completely overpacked for an overnight visit, I chose to wear a vintage ensemble. It seemed fitting given the retro vibe of the Greenbrier. Not to mention, I love the 50’s fashion era (and probably the only thing I love about that time period.) I purchased this dress right before I found out I was pregnant and have been waiting for an opportunity to wear it. Recently, I have started collecting vintage clip-on earrings and found these at a local store called Bygones. Another place to find beautifully curated vintage jewelry online is Sweet and Spark. What I love about statement clip-ons is that don’t weigh your ears down like pierced earrings often can. The clutch is a vintage piece that came from my late mother-in-law. She had such lovely taste, and I’m incredibly thankful to have several pieces as a memento of her.

PS – I’m sure you’ll see this dress reappear around Valentine’s Day

As a new mom, it is important for me to pass on the same ethos of ethical fashion to my son; however, finding the time to research baby brands that are in line with my values is hard. The newborn phase is simultaneously blissful and stressful–quite the adjustment to say the least.

Tips on how to shop responsibly for maternity wear

July 26, 2018

As this pregnancy journey is coming to a close, I wanted to share some tips on navigating the maternity fashion space. Not only from a sustainable/ethical viewpoint, but also with regards to cost savings. I’ve stated several times that quality maternity wear is lacking in general – layer the responsible piece on top of that, and it’s relatively non-existent. Hopefully… Read More

The Instagram Conundrum

June 6, 2018

I have always been attracted to aesthetically pleasing things, and before you say, “of course April – aren’t we all?” hear me out. From a very early age, I would spend hours sifting through magazines and books cutting out images that inspired me. As I moved  into adulthood, the fascination with beauty continued. Often this came in the form of… Read More

Vintage Clothing as Maternity Wear

May 18, 2018

A few weeks ago, one of my best friends sent me two vintage dresses that she procured from one of the many vintage stores in Brooklyn – a great perk of living in NYC. The dresses were too big for her, and she thought they may work as maternity wear for me: they did! Those of you who have followed… Read More

Packing Smart for Summer Travel

May 11, 2018

This time last year, my husband and I were gearing up for a summer of travel throughout Europe. He and I have traveled quite a bit both together and separately; however, that trip was the longest I had been away at one time. Knowing I would be schlepping my suitcase all over Europe in the middle of summer, I was… Read More

Be a Part of the Fashion Revolution

April 17, 2018

In this post, we discussed the why behind the need for a fashion revolution. Today’s post will focus on how you can be involved in the movement. It is easy to get overwhelmed by the magnitude of the problem and think, can my personal contribution actually make a difference?  In short, yes it can. If each of us would take action on one… Read More
