By now, you’ve probably heard me mention that one of the reasons I started ALL AWEAR was because I didn’t see many other ethical bloggers with my style or aesthetic. Similarly, I’ve had a tough time finding ethical/sustainable brands that are geared toward women who work in a professional setting. That being said, I was thrilled when I found out about Maven Women. Not to mention, they are based out of Washington DC – practically my neighbor!
I had the privilege of speaking to founder Rebecca Ballard about what had led her to create this professional brand. As a former human rights lawyer, Rebecca was aware of the issues surrounding the global garment industry, and after the Rana Plaza collapse in 2013, she began to ponder how she could combine her passion for style and human rights. Also recognizing a gap in the market for professional style that is flattering, affordable, and ethical, Rebecca created the first fair trade work-wear brand. The approach to the production process is unique, with women first voting on the style of dress they like best. Once there are enough votes, the dress is moved into thoughtful production. The dress I’m featuring is the Sarah in Sapphire. What I love about this dress is that it can easily take you from day to night. In keeping with the holiday season, I added a velvet ribbon from another dress and paired it with a fur collared vest. The unique cut of this dress can easily stand alone though. The best news is that it’s wash and wear; therefore, you can save money (and the environment) by not taking it to the cleaners.
Rebecca has generously offered to give ALL AWEAR readers $10 off their purchase (using code: ALLAWEAR). Not to worry, they have a generous return policy and are available to answer any questions you have about fit and style.
